How to Upgrade a Digital Receiver
A digital receiver is used to accept scrambled television programming from a cable or satellite receiver. These are used by almost all TV content providers, and many providers actually use the exact same receivers. You need to perform two different actions to upgrade the digital receiver: notify the service provider and adjust your TV hook up.
Instructions
Contact your cable or satellite provider and request an upgrade for your service package. This may include moving up to an HD service. This will require a new, updated receiver so the TV can obtain the HD service. You will need your current address and account information, which are usually listed at the top of your monthly bill, when contacting the service provider.

Schedule a day and time for a service technician to install the updated digital receiver.
Plug the HDMI cable into the "HDMI Out" port on the back of the digital receiver. This allows you to receive the highest quality audio and video programming.

Connect the other end of the cable into a free "HDMI In" port on the television. This connects the high definition A/V cable to your TV.

Power on the television and the newly upgraded digital receiver. Select the "Input" option on the TV, then choose "HDMI." The digital receiver programming loads onto the screen.

How to Connect an HD DVD to Your Surround Sound Receiver
HD DVD players are connected to a surround sound receiver via cables capable of transferring the audio and video signals from the DVD player to the receiver. The quality of the picture and sound depends on a few different factors. The quality of the HD DVD player combined with the use of an HD DVD will determine one part of the overall quality. However, the quality of the cables used to connect the player to the receiver and the receiver to the TV and speakers also plays a crucial role in maximizing the user experience.
Instructions

Determine the types of connections supported by the HD DVD player and the surround sound receiver. HD signals require special ports. HDMI should be used, if available, but DVI and component video ports are also capable of passing an HD signal from the player to the receiver.

Verify that the HD DVD player sends an HD signal to all of its output ports. This information is usually found in the manual. Some devices feature component outputs, but only send a true HD signal to their HDMI or DVI ports.
3.Select the proper cables for the connection according to the types of ports available. Component video ports require the color-coded cables with the three separate video channels. DVI and HDMI ports only require one cable for the video output. However, both component and DVI setups will also require audio cables to send the audio from the player to the receiver.

Attach the necessary cables to the corresponding ports on the HD DVD player and the surround sound receiver. Do not use audio cables if HDMI cables are being used.

Turn on the TV, HD DVD player and the surround sound receiver. Select the proper inputs on the TV and receiver.

Place an HD DVD into the HD DVD player and play the disc to verify that the cables were connected properly.

How to Use a Signal Meter on a Dish 500 for Dreambox
A satellite dish must be properly aimed at the satellite that is providing it with a signal. To aim a Dish Network Dish 500 properly, use a satellite meter. The signal meter, which can be purchased from a satellite supply or electronics store, provides a visual indication of the signal strength being received by the dish. The procedure involves partial disassembly of the dish, but is not complicated and does not require any expertise in electronics.
Instructions

Remove the battery compartment lid on the back of the signal meter. Insert a fresh battery into the battery compartment. Close the battery compartment lid.

Position the signal meter against the side of the bracket holding the Dish 500 so that the needle meter panel is facing you. Tape the signal meter to the side of the bracket with duct tape

Screw one end of the three-foot coaxial cable into the coax output on the signal meter. Screw the other end of the coaxial cable into one of the coax inputs on the multidish switch.

Turn the signal meter on. Loosen the two knobs on the side of the bracket. Raise and lower the dish from the bracket while watching the meter on the signal meter. Stop moving the dish when the needle reaches its high point on the scale pasted inside the panel. Tighten the knobs on the side of the bracket so that they are "finger-tight."

Unscrew the coax cable connected to the signal meter and replace it with another coaxial cable that was connected to the multidish switch. Watch the needle as you move the dish, stopping when the needle has reached its zenith. Repeat this procedure with all of the rest of the coaxial cables that were attached to the multidish switch. Tighten the knobs when you are done.

Unscrew the coaxial cables connected to the signal meter. Unscrew the coaxial cable from the coax input on the multidish switch. Screw the coaxial cables that were removed from the coax inputs on the multidish switch back in.

Turn the signal meter off. Remove the duct tape from the signal meter and the bracket.

A satellite dish must be properly aimed at the satellite that is providing it with a signal. To aim a Dish Network Dish 500 properly, use a satellite meter. The signal meter, which can be purchased from a satellite supply or electronics store, provides a visual indication of the signal strength being received by the dish. The procedure involves partial disassembly of the dish, but is not complicated and does not require any expertise in electronics.
Instructions

Remove the battery compartment lid on the back of the signal meter. Insert a fresh battery into the battery compartment. Close the battery compartment lid.

Position the signal meter against the side of the bracket holding the Dish 500 so that the needle meter panel is facing you. Tape the signal meter to the side of the bracket with duct tape

Screw one end of the three-foot coaxial cable into the coax output on the signal meter. Screw the other end of the coaxial cable into one of the coax inputs on the multidish switch.

Turn the signal meter on. Loosen the two knobs on the side of the bracket. Raise and lower the dish from the bracket while watching the meter on the signal meter. Stop moving the dish when the needle reaches its high point on the scale pasted inside the panel. Tighten the knobs on the side of the bracket so that they are "finger-tight."

Unscrew the coax cable connected to the signal meter and replace it with another coaxial cable that was connected to the multidish switch. Watch the needle as you move the dish, stopping when the needle has reached its zenith. Repeat this procedure with all of the rest of the coaxial cables that were attached to the multidish switch. Tighten the knobs when you are done.

Unscrew the coaxial cables connected to the signal meter. Unscrew the coaxial cable from the coax input on the multidish switch. Screw the coaxial cables that were removed from the coax inputs on the multidish switch back in.

Turn the signal meter off. Remove the duct tape from the signal meter and the bracket.

How To Stream Satellite TV Media Contents From Dreambox Decoder To computer
Dreambox decoder is a Linux based satellite receiver that has been widely used to receive both free and encrypted satellite channels from the sky. As you may normally just hook it up to your TV to view the decoded channels on your large TV screen, have you ever wonder that it can also be connected to multiple PCs in your LAN network for viewing on PC screen? With its built in Ethernet controller that can be used for card sharing, it also simplifies connectivity between PC for this purpose. If you interested to figure out more, here are some simple steps that you can try to set them up using VLC player utility.
In order to achieve this, please follow below steps:
1.Connect both PC (with VLC player installed) and Dreambox using Ethernet cable to your switch or hub.<
2.On the Dreambox remote control, go to Menu -> Setup -> Expert Setup -> Communication Setup and read the IP address of the Dreambox. The IP address will be used on next step.
3.On the PC screen, launch Internet Explorer and key in the IP address in the address field. For instance: Type http://192.168.1.5 (following IP address shown in Step ii).
4.Once prompted by password, enter ‘Root’ as User Name and ‘Dreambox’ as Password to access the Dreambox.
5.At the main page, look for vpid (as circled in RED) and click on the number on its right (ex: 0x4ec).
6.Then, a pop up window will appear asking you if to open or save this file. Click Save (with the default name of “video.m3u”) to any of your local directory that you will need to locate it to open later.
7.Once done, click on the file that you saved earlier (in step vi.) and it will launch the VLC player ready with the media contents to be streamed directly from your Dreambox decoder.
